  • The EBME technician of tomorrow

Medical equipment maintenance requirements are becoming less complicated, less frequent, and less labour intensive. What roles should EBME technicians look to becoming more involved with to ensure the profession remains a relevant and integral part of the NHS of tomorrow? For example IT, user training and education, front line clinical support due to increasingly complex medical equipment?

  • Increasing diversity within EBME

Do EBME departments represent the diversity of the local communities around their hospital? How can we ensure EBME is visible to those who may not see engineering as a profession for them? What initiatives should we be undertaking to ensure a greater number of EBME technicians come from underrepresented groups within the profession? How can we encourage more females to become engineers?

  • The benefits of audits in improving safety and efficiency

How can EBME departments use audits to raise the wider profile of medical equipment management within their organisation? How can we demonstrate to our boards that improving EBME services can lead to improved patient outcomes and that we are an integral part of the NHS and not a backroom function?
